Proverbs 3:5–6 (NKJV)
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” — Proverbs 3:5–6 (NKJV)”
Devotional Thought
There are four words in this passage that can completely change the way we approach life:
“You are not your own.”
It’s your life.
Do what makes you happy.
Follow your heart.
Make your own rules.
These are the words we hear constantly in our world today. They are words that can change our belief in God. They hinder our progress. They cause us more harm than good. They try to stop God’s divine plan and purpose for our lives. Ultimately, decisions we make based on those voices coming from the world, leaves us disappointed and heartbroken, feeling abandoned by God. Many times, those feelings of abandonment and regrets, are the fishing nets that the enemy uses to catch us and drag us back ” Egypt”. The very place God has delivered us from.
The world’s message says, “It’s your life.” But God’s Word says, “You are not your own.”
,Our lives belong to God. The Bible gives us a different perspective.
That does not mean we lose our identity, our dreams or our purpose. It is simply the beginning of a journey to discover who He created us to be. Surrendering our lives to God is where we will find our purpose and our destiny.
Sometimes we ask God to bless decisions we have already made. We choose the relationship, make the plan, pursue the opportunity, and then ask God to make everything work. But what if…
We reversed the order?
We simply asked before making the decision:
“Lord, what do You want?”
Belonging to God means inviting Him into every area of our lives. It should not be the areas where we need help.
Our relationships belong to Him.
Our plans belong to Him.
Our gifts belong to Him.
Our time belongs to Him.
Our FUTURE belongs to Him.
Even the dreams we hold most closely must be placed into His hands.
Surrender does not always mean God will take something away. Sometimes it is simply allowing Him to decide what stays, what goes, what changes, and what must wait.
That can be difficult when His answers differs from ours. But if we truly believe that we belong to God, then we can also trust that He see what we cannot see and know what we don’t know.
We see today. But God sees our entire journey.
Everyday Application
Before making an important decision today, resist the urge to ask:
“Is this what I want?”
Instead ask:
“Lord, does this align with what You want for me?”
Then give Him permission to answer. Even if His answer is delayed, or is different from the one you hoped to hear., trust Him
Prayer
Father, thank You for reminding me that my life belongs to You. Forgive me for the times I have made my own plans and simply asked You to bless them. Teach me to seek You first. Help me trust Your wisdom when Your answer is yes, when it is no, and when it is wait. I surrender my plans, my desires, my relationships, and my future into Your hands. Lead me according to Your purpose, and help me live each day remembering that I am Yours. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Reflection
Before you make your next important decision, ask yourself:
“Have I truly sought God’s direction, or have I already decided what I want and am now asking Him to bless it?”
Take a moment today and sincerely pray:
“Lord, I don’t want to simply ask You to bless my decisions. I want You to direct them.”
Pause. Believe. Look again. God is still doing wonders.
